Product Updates, January 2026
2026 is off to a great start here at Scholarly. Here are a few of the things we built this month in partnership with our customers.
Faculty Assistants
Scholarly introduced a new role within the application: Faculty Assistants
Faculty assistants are for institutions where faculty members have administrative assistants
A faculty assistant user can assist one or more faculty members
Assistants can act on behalf of faculty members, taking actions on their behalf. This includes:
Completing workflows and forms, updating activity data, and more
CV Import
Scholarly has begun rolling out CV Import, a simple way of importing an entire CV of activity data into the platform
CV Import uses some of the latest LLMs to securely parse, structure, and ingest the data from a faculty member's CV
After an initial parsing and structuring pass, the faculty member is presented with an interface to approve or modify any of the records identified in the CV. The records are automatically sorted into the activity kinds configured in the institution's account
The platform accurately detects if an activity is a duplicate or not, prevents duplicating information already on the platform
CV Import will work with both PDFs and Microsoft Word documents
We've found CV Import saves hours of faculty time per CV and eliminates data entry issues
Email Composer
Scholarly introduced a powerful new interface for authoring emails
Email lists can be customized and filtered by different faculty attributes, like rank, department, or any custom field
Email contents can be templated, with template variables for common attributes like name, department name, and more
Emails authored through the composer can link directly to the faculty member's specific workflow
Files can be attached to emails authored via the composer
Custom reply-to addresses can be set to ensure responses get routed to the right person
Content is previewable and live-updating, with the ability to preview as any recipient
Try it out by clicking "Compose Email" from within any workflow
API Upgrades
Faculty assistants can be accessed through the Admin Assistant Role resource in the API
Creating User records is now possible in the API
Addresses and Phone Number can now be attached to User records
All endpoints now work with the JSON:API
?includeparameter, which allows for the inclusion of related resources. This cuts down on the number of requests required to traverse the Scholarly object graph.Folders can now be deleted via the API
Miscellaneous Improvements and Fixes
Sandbox reset progress is now visible and live-updating from the Settings > Sandbox page
Improved the design of our PDFs to make better use of the page layout
Improved definitions of what it means to complete a workflow step, solving a few bugs in the process
Improved the color palette on our workload diagrams to better handle histograms with 20+ colors
Fixed a few bugs with sandbox resets
Rich text now renders correctly in CV exports
Fixed an occasional off-by-one error with participation counts in workflows
We now prevent overlapping primary appointments in the system
Miscellaneous performance improvements throughout the application
