Product Updates, July 2026

July was a big month for workflows, document generation, and data imports. We shipped improvements that make review processes easier to manage, exports more flexible, and institution data pipelines more reliable.

Here are the highlights.

Better workflows for reviewers, admins, and faculty

We shipped several workflow improvements this month focused on clarity and flexibility:

  • Admins can now configure workflows with more nuanced conditional logic, including conditions based on profile custom fields

  • Workflows can hide empty activity tables from reviewer views and final PDFs

  • Users can now toggle between activity display formats within workflows like table, card, and citation formats

  • We improved external reviewer experiences, including clearer rejection language and better handling around nominations and invitations

  • We added support for capturing why an external reviewer declines

  • We fixed a number of workflow UI issues, including spacing, reviewer assignment friction, and stale links in review flows

Overall, these changes make complex review workflows easier to configure and less confusing for the people moving through them.

Stronger document templates and exports

We continued investing in document generation and export tooling:

  • Letter template configuration is now easier to find and manage

  • Document templates gained broader variable support and better attachment/configuration exposure

  • We fixed footer rendering for multi-page letters

  • PDF exports now handle long activity descriptions better

  • Document export configuration got cleaner contact-information layouts

  • Exports can now stitch multiple fields into a single column

This should make it easier to build polished outputs without as much manual cleanup after export. This also adds to the flexibility for Scholarly to match institution-provided templates exactly.

Faculty data, profile, and admin improvements

We also shipped a range of improvements for faculty data management:

  • Faculty activity tables can now show source descriptions in the UI

  • More profile and appointment data can be displayed in admin views and timelines

  • We added new field support, including URL-style fields and additional base/profile fields

  • Users now get better handling for institution-specific login and email behavior

  • Several profile and settings bugs were fixed, especially around archived or hidden fields still appearing where they shouldn’t

These are the kinds of changes that reduce admin friction and make the platform feel more consistent day to day.

That's all for the month of July. Stay tuned for next month's product updates!
